Only reason I ask about this is for close range varmint shooting in/around our barns, quite often at night.

Didn't realize I need a permit to purchase for the receiver so that'll slow things down if I do end up going with this route.

It's easier than buying a gun at Cabelas now (with taking numbers, and the nics counter, etc...). Get ahold of your FFL, make sure they know what you're planning (typically will charge $20ish processing fee, a good friend migh be less or not at all ;) ). If you're ordering from a place like whitake...
