Re: Mounts---Why???

I enjoy mounted ducks and fish in my house, I just happen to like them and I don't have a ol lady to bitch about them. I have 2 that i mounted just cause I wanted to, and at the time I had some spending money, a nice widgeon drake and a nice cackler. My other mounts are more sentimental. 1 is a dust...

Re: Marsh Lake

I grew up hunting marsh, my old man owned one of the citiot shacks a couple miles from the river landing, sold it a few years ago and now we both live and hunt north of there, he's an hour away, I'm 2 hours away. Anyways I was pretty young in the late 80's, early 90's so my memories are not totally ...

I don't know about actual sanctuaries, but it amazes me how if there's one unpressured hole in 10 square miles how many ducks find it.

Re: Shallow Lakes Program

The notion of holding birds for field hunting opportunities is about as elitist as it gets, especially in MInnesota. Eliminating opportunities open to the public to improve hunting for a select few landowners, or the select few who have permission is backwards. I get what is being said as it pertai...

Re: Fish Felon's Fish Poaching Tips and Tactics

Freezing walleye fillets on pike skin is a tactic that shouldn't be overlooked for transporting fish......I've heard. A guy I used to work with did this when crossing back into the US after fishing in Canada, he claimed it worked every time. As for me, I can fish 3 days a week on some pretty decent ...

Re: Vaunted Marsh Lake

I like that you mentioned the boat races, I don't have to deal with that anymore, but I have some good memories of that. Nothing gets a tired/hung over guy awake quite like going full throttle down the river in the dark, and occasionally hitting a floating tree stump. I've wasted many props and shaf...

Re: Vaunted Marsh Lake

It's long over due. Improve Marsh lake and it will help. There is a moist soil impoundment there, correct? Yes the Killen Refuge is managed as a moist soil impoundment, most, if not all (been a while since I've been out there) is off limits to hunting but it does hold an impressive amount of birds ...

Re: Vaunted Marsh Lake

I'll believe it when I see it. I'm guessing it will become miss managed and end up being off limits to hunting or inaccessible by boat or have a draw hunt. Then in a few years it will be back to what it is now, a migration spot. I grew up hunting that area, my old man owned one of the citiot duck s...

Re: Vaunted Marsh Lake

Imo, marsh should be managed for waterfowl. That being said, will diverting the pomme into lqp turn lower lqp into (more of) a silty loon shit hole than it already is? (between the twin bridges and the spillway). Will dropping the water on marsh in the summer negatively affect the fishing from upstr...

Re: Well golly,

The other day I heard some one say that the gas wars that the west and OPEC are currently playing is the modern day cold war. Instead of trying to break each others economy by matching military and nuclear arsenal's they/us are now producing more oil, causing the price to drop, and waiting for one e...
