Bird numbers dropped off the last few days here. A lot of the rez's around town have frozen over and that pushed many out. Like always there are always birds using the rivers. 99% of the crops are out and the birds seem to be heavy on corn.

Good buddy of mine guides part time for Premiere and he sais it's been slow as well. I haven't been out much with the new kid and finally getting my buck, but it's our groups worst year thus far. Need a foot of snow.

So why would a foot of snow help?

Seems to me that if they can not access food sources they'd boogey South.

Makes the geese reset there smart clock. The die hard geese see the same spreads day after day. With snow they lose track of there reference points and They decoy like its there job. They literally follow roads out of town and use those as there guide to the hot fields.

I'll be damned, I never thought of that. I learned something new again today.

Wish I could have made it over to Rochester again this year but didn't have the time.

Hunted east of town this afternoon, strong flight from 2.30-4 but geese knew where they wanted to be. Talked a couple flocks into playing ball and after a gun jam and some poor shooting we scratched out 2 birds. Had a flock of 50 or better mallards put on a show for us, coulda went on um but I wanted them closer. If we could get a few inches of snow, it would help a lot.
