Anyone actually take advantage of it this year?

Interested to know your thoughts & experience, and if the liberal limit was ever achievable.

I "kind of" did. Was at my buddies cabin up by Alex and can legally shoot on the lake so we were out shooting bows and heard a honk. Grabbed my calls and called it in for him to shoot.

I personally refuse to drive a couple hours away to hunt geese in 90 degree heat. To me, August is time for shooting bow, clay pigeons, getting ready for fall and enjoying the last days of summer. September is plenty early for me!

Not much for goose action in August where I live. Besides fishing still pretty good that time of year.

Didn't participate in the august season but recently attended a presentation from the head goose specialist for the DNR. He made it sound like as long as there wasn't a horrible hatch the season would continue most likely. He had been trying to get the august season approved for a few years prior already.

From what I saw there was a horrendous goose hatch locally, not even 20% of normal. That hurt the prospects.

I have to agree with the others, I balk to a degree if its warm of hunting in Sept, so frankly Aug does not interest me too much. But it was rather cool for Aug this last Aug. compared to how hot it could be at times.

We went out one morning and saw like 2 flocks...there were tons that couldn't fly. Once October hit it was much better we had like 3 weekends in a row limiting out within an hour. The August season kinda screws up the sept season though...as sept sucked too cause some of the birds were stale from august hunters. Wish they would get rid of august season...at least this far east...birds in the west metro are no migrating to the Dakotas before the sept season.

This year the August season seemed to be almost a joke due to the late planting season. Had the August season been established in 2012... I would be a strong supporter!!! Around the area I hunt, Birds are all over local wheat fields the last two weeks in august, then seem to shift elsewhere. If we have a dry spring and crops are in on time, I think we will see a much bigger support group for the August extermination.

I hunted the August goose season in North Dakota. Heat was not an issue really. I probably won't ever do it again. We shot some birds. Hardly saw any flocks flying. The ones we shot swam in or walked in...
