I didn't sit a single time til the first week of October this year. Had great buck sightings from there until Halloween but nothing I wanted to shoot. I thought for sure this year's rut was going to be the best one I can remember hunting. Boy was I wrong.

Here's to hoping this changes soon. The closer we get to Thanksgiving, the less of a chance at a nice buck for me. I definitely need to thin the does down anyhow and hopefully my dad can take one out too.

Yeah I've seen some bucks but zero rut activity on my property, last year was a ridiculous amount of activity I just don't get it. Had really really high hopes this year. I usually still have pretty decent hunting/bucks trailing does until the end of November...maybe after lockdown it will get better. I put new batteries in my game cam so at least I can see whats moving through still, probably let that go until early next week and check it.

Don't think I will go out tonight depending on how long my meeting takes. Too windy and the field is going to be a mess walking out

I'll echo everyone else's opinions...

I really thought with all the scraping and doe's near me it was going to be a banner early Nov. So did some of the better whitetail minds that I know, this weather killed it IMO. I still have pictures of great bucks and have them following doe's but its at 10:00 pm and later. Just nothing doing during the daytime. This last week/weekend and the days leading up to gun season combined I probably heard of 25 +/- P&Y's hitting the ground across MN and Iowa. I only heard of one being completely "rutted up". Most were solitary bucks feeding without thick necks or stinky glands. I heard a story here and there of a immature buck chasing a doe but for every one of those I heard alot of doe's with fawns, and bucks near doe's on a food plot but could have cared less about anything other then eating....

odd year for sure, I've never seen such a promising pre-rut followed by an otherwise absent rut

Just this week I've finally started seeing lone does. Hopefully a sign of good things to come.

I cant agree more with the bolded part of your statement!
