(ABC 6 News) -- Emergency crews were called in to a hunting area in Austin for what seemed like a complicated rescue situation.

A man was flown by Mayo One to the hospital tonight after falling out of a tree stand in Austin.

According to the Austin Fire Department, the man was hunting on public land about half a mile upstream from the Ramsey Dam. Because of where the man fell, the fire department brought a boat in, in case they needed to get him by river.

They did not end up needing the boat but they brought two fire trucks, and 6 crew members to help with the extraction effort.

The crew also helped Mayo One land along County Road 61.

At this time, there is no word on the man's condition.

-------

Many years ago my uncle fell out of a tree stand from 9' up. He said It would not have been so bad if it were not for the rock sticking up 4". It broke his ribs on his back.

With all the safety equipement now available (unlike 30+ years ago where a rope tied around your waist was it) I am surprised that more hunters are not using safety items available.

So be safe this season.

There is no excuse to not use a safety harness.
