Food Plots

Tue Jun 23, 2015 11:46 am

You guys out planting/planning? I'm a little late just got me seed in yesterday, going to go check out my land tomorrow see what kind of prep will be necessary, hope to get them planted before the rain chances dry up too much. I may plant this weekend unless they need Roundup, then I'll have to spray and wait a bit.

Planted one went through all the prep work and planted it. No shortcuts. Then the river bottom plot flooded.

So does fertilizing my green Hosta plants count as a food plot? As every Aug once things start to brown, the deer come in like a lawn mower and eat 90% of them. :D

God, help me be the man that my dog thinks that I am.

Not sure what you're planting but it's a little late and a little early.

I won't be putting mine in until the first week of August. Have been mowing it once every two weeks and will hit with glyphosate this weekend. Spot spray until August and then plant. Still need to do a soil test to determine how much fertilizer and lime to add.

Yeah I know, I've had OK luck planting now though with work I just kind of have to do it when I can. One spot was pretty bare when I checked so going to plant it this weekend. Farmer is going to spray the other one tomorrow so I'll have to wait a couple weeks for that one

Got ya. Good luck!

Don't know if you've got your seed bought yet but I have heard really good things about Whitetail Institute Imperial Pure Attraction. I might give it a try.

corn plots are growing ok, about waist high now, dam deer are eating the tops off the stalks again this year. chased a doe out of there just now with the wheeler. Put out a trail camera near by, baited with 5 gal. pail of corn and some beet pieces, -bought at runnings, its for horses but deer love. Have not saw a single fawn all year out there,
