2017 Deer Hunting

Wed Apr 19, 2017 10:22 am

Anyone putting any plots in yet? Mineral sites going? Cameras out?

All of my mineral sites are refreshed for the year and I was able to get about 45 minutes in clearing a new area for a plot last night before dark. Plan for that spot is to keep it weed free until end of July and then plant it to clover and oats.

I usually don't put cameras back out until June.

Not yet...Thinking as long as I keep mine mowed good they should be good yet this year. Actually walking out there tonight to listen for turkeys and check them out a lil. Anxious to get the camera out and see if that 11 pt is still alive

I won't be planting any plots yet for a little while.... Luke warm winter, we should be sitting pretty good from a numbers standpoint. I don't know that any of the more mature deer I knew about last year got shot. Pretty optimistic for the coming fall....

yea I hear you there..... our numbers are higher than they've been in the last 5 years or so, so there's that. DNR seems like they're doing their due diligence to appease the major stakeholders through public input. I'm convinced the way our deer season (specific to firearms) is ran, is the worst in the nation, in a state with incredible potential but nothing is likely going to change and make a drastic difference due to politcs. Here's to shooting forks and 6-pts..... when the deer are most vulnerable (in the heart of the rut)..... over-the-counter, unlimited numbers...... with the most effective weapon (guns)

Thanks I really like my little piece of property hope to build there within 10 years and have it all in my backyard. If I could ever afford to buy the neighbors 100 acre farmstead I'd be in heaven, then I wouldn't even have to build. Way out of my price range though, but his chunk of land is awesomeness

Was able to get a shot of glyphosate on my new clover plot in between planting corn yesterday. Not a big area but should be a nice kill plot. 10 yard x 80 yard strip on the edge of a transition line.

Cameras probably won't get out til after bean planting.
