Metro Area Fishing Report - January 24th, 2014

LAKE MINNETONKA AREA

Look for suspended crappies over 30 to 35 feet on Lake Independence and Lake Minnetonka. Walleyes are hitting fatheads and setlines along the 16-foot weeds out to 32 feet on Minnetonka. Sunfish are hitting on Lake Sarah in 14 to 19 feet or in Carson’s Bay and Black Lake on Minnetonka. Pike action is consistent on most lakes in 12 to 18 feet, with Medicine Lake producing a few bigger fish.

NORTHEAST METRO

Look for suspended crappies over 30 to 35 feet on the St. Croix River near Hudson. Lake Jane and White Bear Lake are safe for pike with tip ups and suckers in 10 to 12 feet, while Big Marine Lake is kicking out a mixed bag of panfish in eight to 13 feet. Walleye reports are limited to a few fish off the St. Croix in 30 feet or Forest Lake in 10 to 15 feet.

WEST METRO

Pike are hitting suckers in 10 to 14 feet on Lake Auburn, Lake Minnewashta, and Lake Zumbra. Lake Parley and Whaletail Lake are giving up crappies during the evening hours in 12 to 16 feet. Sunfish action has been best on Lake Susan and Parley in 10 to 14 feet.

LAKE WACONIA

Look for sunfish in nine to 14 feet and pike slightly deeper in Waconia Bay, Center Reef, and Pillsbury Reef. Crappies are hitting during low-light periods over 20 to 24 feet in Wagener’s Bay or 12 to 14 feet in Waconia Bay. Work the weedlines on most main-lake reefs after dark for walleyes in 12 to 16 feet.

ANNANDALE AREA

Crappies are hitting best during the evening hours in 25 to 32 feet on Granite Lake, Lake John, and Pleasant Lake. Walleye reports have been limited to an occasional fish off Clearwater Lake or Lake Sylvia in 18 to 24 feet. Look for sunfish in eight to 14 feet on Cedar Lake, Lake Marie, and John, while northern pike remain active on most lakes along the weeds in 10 to 15 feet.

CHISAGO AREA

Look to Kroon Lake in 12 to 14 feet and Green Lake in eight to 10 feet for northern pike. Chisago Lake is producing sunfish near the A-Frame in eight to 12 feet and North Center Lake or South Lindstrom Lake are safe bets for crappies in 16 to 22 feet. Walleye action has slowed to a fish or two each night off Green in 12 feet and South Center Lake in 16 to 20 feet.
