Ice fishing sonar on open water

Thu Feb 13, 2014 2:14 pm

Does anybody do it?

Looking at trying specifically for checking depth. Don't need to be able to mark fish, that'd just be a bonus. I know they sell different transducer kits but has anyone ever tried their hard water transducer on open water? I don't know why it wouldn't read depth?

Mushroom can epoxy'd to the floor. Put water in it and add ice transducer. We do that on the river because it gives you real time depths while running.

I saw this mentioned on another forum. Could you explain the epoxying part or if you have pics?

Pretty much scuff it, glob it and stick it.

60-80 grit sandpaper the spot you want it to put it (inside of boat near the drain plug), cover spot with epoxy and push can down into it. Put some epoxy on bottom of can to rid the chance of air bubbles before sticking to bottom of boat.

Would it work in a canoe?

Find the flattest spot in it to get the most accurate reading.
