NORTHEAST METRO
You’ll find six to nine inches of ice on many lakes and ATVs are being used. A few walleyes are being taken with shiner minnows on Bald Eagle Lake in 10 to 12 feet. Crappies are hitting minnows on the St. Croix River in 22 to 28 feet and at White Bear Lake in 14 feet. Northern pike are being taken with tip ups and sucker minnows at Lake Jane, Demontreville Lake, Beaver Lake, and Silver Lake in six to eight feet.

WEST METRO
Eight to 11 inches of ice is being found on most lakes. Northern pike remain active on Lake Zumbra and Lake Auburn in 12 to 14 feet. Look for sunfish at Rietz Lake in 10 to 12 feet, while Wagener’s Bay on Lake Waconia is producing crappies in 14 to 18 feet. The reefs on Waconia are giving up a few walleyes in 18 to 20 feet and Whaletail Lake is worth noting for crappies in 11 feet.

LAKE MINNETONKA AREA
Ice depths vary from two to nine inches with more ice on the small lakes and bays. Lake Sarah and Medicine Lake are producing pike in 17 feet and sunfish in 12 feet. A few anglers are heading to Lake Minnetonka in the evenings for walleyes, but marginal ice is preventing them from getting to prime spots.

ANNANDALE AREA
A few walleyes are hitting shiner minnows or jigging spoons at Clearwater Lake, Lake Sylvia, and Sugar Lake in 16 to 24 feet of water. Northern pike are cruising the shallows providing good angling and spearing action at Lake John, Pleasant Lake, Clearwater, and Cedar Lake. Look for sunfish in 20 feet on John or in 12 feet at Pleasant with eight to 12 inches of ice common on area lakes.

CHISAGO AREA
Most lakes have eight to 12 inches of ice and there isn’t any slush to deal with, meaning the lakes are in fine shape. The channel between Big Green Lake and Little Green Lake is kicking out crappies in 12 to 18 feet during low-light periods. The Dinner Bell area on South Lindstrom Lake started giving up walleyes in five to 20 feet during low-light periods as well.

EAST CENTRAL MN
Anglers are reporting eight inches of ice with snowmobiles and ATVs being used throughout the area. Stanchfield Lake is giving up crappies and perch in 12 feet, while Blue Lake is producing walleyes and crappies in 16 to 20 feet. Hit Elk Lake and Fremont Lake with tip ups and sucker minnows for northern pike in seven feet.

HARRIS AREA
You can expect 10 to 12 inches of ice on most lakes by this weekend. Crappie action has been strong in 17 to 25 feet on Horseshoe Lake, Fish Lake, and Rush Lake. Northern pike are going strong in shallower water at Rush and North Goose Lake. Look for sunfish on the weed edges of North Goose, Fish, and East Rush Lake.
