Well... I think there is something to predicting an early winter via animal hair growth. Horses for example, if it is comming in early some long time horse owners swear it is an accurate indicator. But on how cold or mild the winter is, that is pretty doubtful IMHO.

Remember a few years back we had a cold Sept and early Oct? But it then got warm for a month--waterfowl hunting was a bust as minmal wind and sunny and warm. Who knows, maybe we'll get a repeat. Anyways next weeks forecast by 2 sites is sunny and 60s for S MN.

I heard you have to stand on a bucket to determine that. Is that true?

Well, you can get a good look at a steak by sticking your head up a bulls ass... but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?

One of my horses has her thick coat already while the other one still looks like July. What's that tell us?

Warren said The Pas, MB is almost devoid of ducks and geese. The main lake was mostly froze over, and very little shooting Friday. Most Geese migrated out earlier in the week. Basically it's the end of the season up there unless some more come down from North of there. FYI - The Pas is on the MB/SK border and 400 Miles of the US border.
