I've had co's all up on me when I've got bored fishing for walleye on opener and started throwing spinnerbaits for northerns. They been sure I was fishing for bass. Finally had to tell one to give me a f**k'n ticket so I could see him in court because I wanted to get back to fishing.

I hate that co from hutch. Tall, short dark hair, early thirties.

Had a co yelling at us from shore once because we were throwing rat l traps and husky jerks for walleye where a river came into a lake because we were "bass" fishing.

Hopefully they'll keep on policing the important things.... like it's illegal to pull your boat with a plug in it.

Launched today, almost forgot about the law. Silly me, wanted to put the plug before we left the driveway.

Nice on the water, this winter sucked. Hope fishing goes okay and we get some decent hunting.

I asked a CO about this once, in regards to guys 'pike fishing' on muskie lakes with 10" jerkbaits and giant bucktails. He said it's like the Supreme Court's definition of pornography - 'I can't define it, but I know it when I see it.' Guys fishing muskies early are probably the worst for this honestly. Really gets on my nerves. That having been said, on a lake that also has decent pike, early season's a good time to get 'em, so, what do you do...

Starting this year there is a C&R only bass season which opens the same weekend as walleye season. Probably a sensible thing to do honestly, especially for bass. For most of the state the idea that the later opener was protecting spawning fish was kind of a joke - a lot of the time they aren't spawning until after the opener anyhow. But, it will be interesting to see if this opens the door to similar rules for other species, or if it stays with just bass because frankly the majority of MN anglers really don't care about bass that much anyhow...

So if I was to cast a rapala for carp in a river this time of year I wonder what would happen?

Kind of exciting to find out!

Is it legal to snag in MN? My buddy would always hit up Elm Creek in maple grove "snagging" carp by casting huge spoons, he just happened to land a lot of big northerns as well

Snagging is illegal.

The CO would ask you what you are fishing for and when you tell him carp he would tell you to have a nice day and move on.

Legally you can get away with it. It's up to your ethics whether or not you do it.

Yeah I think it's more of a question of common sense than of ethics. Since I don't keep any fish I catch ever (too much work/rather eat frozen pizzas) what difference does it make what day on the calendar it might be.

At least that's how I look at it.
