After the record rains last year, who would have thought we'd see this?
The top of the ice was 1' higher at the nest 1 month ago, which is its normal water height. High water is 2' more water in this basin as there is an outlet that drains anything 2' higher that this. This basin in most years in August is dry (mud flats like below).
Thankfully most wetlands are at or above normal ice out water levels.
