Had an old blazer that I ran the oil out of when I was young and dumb - went to start it and it was locked up tight, dip stick was bone dry. Got it pulled home, added oil and a new starter, she was good as new :).

Don't think the newer vehicles are as resilient, and I probably caused some damage - but it ran without issue for the many miles I put on afterwards.

I had a very obvious leak around the oil pan, probably burned a bit too but I think it lost a quart every few months or so.

GM considers 1 quart per 1000 miles normal usage. Just an FYI.

Most manufacturing companies consider it normal for a vehicle to "use" oil.
