props..... don't see many shooting 284wins's anymore. Even .280rem is becoming more scarce... I have a soft spot for 7's.... not so much in 7mmrem but the smaller 284/280/7-08 are sweethearts of rounds.

Thanks. I haven’t shot it yet. It’s at the smith getting the barrel fitted and chambered. M70 action with a 24” Bartlein barrel. I lucked out and bought everything right before this ammo craze started. I had a m70 in 280 for a while still wish I had it. 7mm-08 is right up there on my list of wants but I’ve never had one and can’t see owning one with the 284 now

^^^^ I know of at least one elk that was killed 3 yards shy of 600 by a 284 win. I'm sure there's others but I only know one guys that shoots a 284

and if I remember his story correctly it was a one shot, 20yds and dead..... found the slug in the offside under the hide. Pretty sure he was shooting an accubond.....

That’s cool. Long range hunting takes a lot of skill. I’m kinda set up for it but finding a spot to practice and get dope is more then challenging around here. If shot prairie dogs out to 525 or so. I killed a mule deer buck last fall in his bed at 325 with my 6mm gt and 103 eldx. All bullets went through him. He was dead on the first but I didn’t need him going over the next ridge. Also shot a coyote at 440 once with 22-250 but p dogs put a end to that barrel

I have Luepold VX5HD 2-10x on my AR. Should I put that on my .270 for a mule deer hunt out west this fall? Currently have a Burris Fullfield ii 3-9x on it. I never shoot my AR tho with ammo shortage BS.

That's probably the best hunting scope leupold's ever made. Far better (more durable) than even their vx6's. With all the problems that have plagued their vx3 line and below within the last 5-10yrs the scope you have is ultimately their flagship. Belongs on a 270........

I’m gonna make the swap then! Thanks for the advice. My AR is a DMR-type build, so it will need a scope at some point. I’ll likely just sell my Burris Fullfield.

Fishing opener was mediocre, but a mediocre opener is a good opener since it's not a bad opener.

Caught some really nice pan fish leading up to it as well.

SWFA mil/mil fixed 6x or a 3-9HD is going to be your best friend for the $$ without jumping up to nightforce or bushnell. Nothing else in that price range even gets close in terms of reliability/repeatability (which is going to be what fails on scopes that you dial). The fact that they come out of Light Optical Works in Japan makes them even better value....

I'd keep the fullfield however. probably won't get much on resale and for a set-n-forget scope they're not bad.....
