This one was small. I've found some before with shells as round as the bottom of a 55 gallon drum. Prehistoric looking.

Are they an invasive/introduced species?

Or does current land development increase their range/population or limit natural predators in such a way that their numbers are causing negative impact on other species?

Or are they just competition in the duck raising landscape?

I have invented a rubber bag you can put them in to kill them.
Buckthorn removal is easy with the buckthorn baggie :-)
