Like most of the others I don't mind at all the banner ads but pop ups are a turn off. If this place could be self supporting that would be best for all.

agree with what others are saying. Just stay away from the pop ups. That chevy add was a major pain in the rear.

I say make money when you can. You put some effort into this and deserve to reap the rewards. I personally didn't like the pop up ads....but it didn't stop me from using the site. I was kind of surprised on TOS how folks got all twitterpated that the owners made money on the site...especially when the political slant of the populations seemed to be pretty right side. :?

I think there is a significant difference between sponsor ads and Google banners. If you've got space and can rotate ads, without going the full-on Google Ads, and the sponsors can provide the dimensions you need, I don't think that's a bad thing.

Even as annoying as pop-ups are IP tracking b.s. "we know what you want" crap. Sorry, if I've got to research American Girl Doll BS I REALLY hate that crap showing up on the hunting form because of their protocols. I won't shop Morries because of that crap.

Anyway: sponsor banners, no problem. crap Google Ads banners, problem.

Charge something more than in-kind gifts though. In-kind gets you a sticky announcing the contest. You want a banner, that position has value.

Go for quality over quantity. One or two sponsors a month. Be selective who gets to sponsor. Cover your costs and your time.
