Captive? Dumping the body or keeping her around?

You definitely get some nice tail!

Doves brah. Good first hunt for the 5 month old pup. Planning lots of MN hunting and a trip to Montana for waterfowl and upland

5 months is a young start. Looks like the perfect spot to introduce a dog to hunting. How’d he do?

Mine was 6-7 months her first year and was pretty much clueless. Fortunately she has turned in to a damn fine dog.

Enjoy the new pup. It adds a whole new and fun (and frustrating at times) element to hunts. Post up some updates on the progress this season.

He did great. I’m very conservative about dog training but the info has changed a lot since my last lab, about 18 years ago. Everything I’m reading on pointing dogs says to get them out hunting (with no expectations) the first fall and then put the controls on the next summer. It’s refreshing compared to the BS I put myself through with my last lab.

This pup is super level headed and we’ve put a ton of effort into exposing him to lots of experiences this summer. It’s been a fun summer. Will be a fun fall even if not real productive.

Made a few quick weekend trips to ND for early season so far. Hunting has been ok. A lot less wheat being planted in the area we typical hunt has made the birds really congregated. But been better then MN would have been.

I have been seeing lots of molt migrators coming down the last few mornings.

Does anyone know if there is a reason why grouse open this weekend but woodcock doesn’t open until next weekend? I have always thought that was dumb and am interested in there is a scientific reason behind it. I see those little buggers all summer long so it seems our resident population is doing fine. I’d bet we jump more of them this weekend than grouse.

DNR website isn't up to prove a theory.... but I'm going with Migratory Bird. Rails/snipe/etc different also?

Sad. You didn't choose a labradoodle...
