Sounds like it would be a good time. Too far of a drive for me, especially since last Sunday I drove to St Cloud and back in the crappy weather.

Good idea about the long weekend. My wife would be at the show for sure. She's a bit of decoy nut. She's still excited about a deal she got on a Mason teal and pissed about missing out on a nice preening Canada goose. She got a nice Can not to long ago too. She buys the high dollar decoys (high according to our budget) and I buy the cheap ones.

It is a great show, with a lot of waterfowling history. There are some true artist/craftsmen there. I couldn't believe some of the carvings, and one of the Les Kubota's oil paintings was unreal.

Some of those olds dekes command some serious $$.

All of MNFOWL must be either getting ready for the advertising bowl tomorrow or must be at the decoy show. Not much happening here today.

I for one am still trying to deal with what them dusharme decoys went for Fri. In all it was a good time learned a lot about tracking/ following birds with Doppler radar, and a pile of wild rice stuff.......

All that said the best speaker was the last one!!!

Sorry I missed ya Chuck. I agree about the price of the old decoys

Good to see some of the MN Fowl guys in the seminars & the guy that spoke about radar tracking
of ducks was very interesting.

All in all it was a good time & I'd do it again

For some of you younger guys it was also a very cheap day. I spent less than $10 & that
included lunch. Fowler wouldn't let in his special liquor cooler he brought or it would have been a
even cheaper day

At the auction? What did it go for?

Commissioner Tom or Steve's quiz?

Original paint--unretouched, and varifiable who made it, and scarcity of species and/or pose of the decoy, the scarcity of the makers decoys and if he is well known maker are all key to highest dollar values. One small detail can be the difeence of a $500 decoy Vs a $1500 one in the really collectable ones. I remember about 10 years ago debating if I should plunk down $1150 for a hen Canvasback OP (original paint) Challenge grade Mason. I did not do it, but it was difficult decision. I (and others) thought $1000 was top value for it.

Next year it is the 3rd through the 6th of Feb, so a week before Valentines. I suggest if she is really into it, get here by late Thursday afternoon so she can go room to room in the evening, and take in the full members only showing (with auction) on Friday. Sat you could do the Symposium and she could head to MOA. And then head back Sunday.
