Fill in some rocks on the bottom, add some dead zebs, darken it up for an evening setting, add some light shining in, then for the finishing touch paint a spear going through the back of its head with blood pooling out. ‘Tis the season.

When I showed up at the public access on Mille lacs about 1130 pm before opener last year there was a native boat spearing right in front of the access. I couldn’t believe it. We watched him spear a big female. Some White dudes that were clearly Mille lacs net and spear haters were having a melt down. I was laughing my ass off.

Oh, trust me....thought about having a shredded hulled Alumacrap but the painting is meant to honor the amazing h2ofwlr....not mock him.

Les Kouba did pheasant series that included 'taking cover' 'in cover' and 'leaving cover' I believe.

I think Alan Nikolai would make a great subject for a similar series.

I could have him getting his WDB's and HH's ready in his garage in the winter, putting them out in the spring, and the one I painted already would be the third one in the fall where he fumbles for his shotgun and isn't able to capitalize on what ends up being the only opportunity of that outing....skunked yet again.
