Went out for the hell of it this morning. Only one spot left with a little bit of open water. Couple younger guys showed up as I was unloading. Said they were all over and can't find open water so I invited them to sit with me. Only seen 4 geese and one ruddy that missed the open hole and took a header into the cattails. Dog found it and I caught and released it into the now bigger open spot. After packing up I just took a big loop home and I do believe we had the only open water left. Ice so thick I drug my 8 ft jon with 4 doz decoys, ammo bag, dry box, gun and exc across it with no cracking. Still going to try tomorrow but have little hope left.

Should of today. Not sure you would of brought them down though. They seemed pretty determined to get out while the getting is good. Couple 100 bird flocks were way way up there. Couldn't hardly get a call back from the ones only way up there.

Sat till noon, good amount of migrant geese. Only seen two bills ( they dead), three other divers with their bills stuck up some goose azz and a king cormie that seemed confused.

Still plenty of mallards and a ton of geese hanging around central MN over the weekend! Had some great field mallard hunts, had to take a few sick days already this week to get out before they leave or just get stale. Lots of hunters around! Don't see our area being a total freeze up before the end of the season.
