How many feet of tile going in?

Probably none. Farmers love the land.

Floods, water quality, aquifer depletion, habitat and wildlife loss, the list goes on. Are farmers really that ignorant on the effects of drain tile?

With this disclaimer of not at all wanting to get into it with you personally as this is NOT my intent at all--but rather keeping this discussion to principles: The wetlands stay artificially high because of the tile. As such the normal dry/wet cycles don't happen like a regular wetland with no tile running into it. And long term the deeper water due to the tile water also allows rough fish and minnows not to winter kill nearly as easily. For puddle ducks the key is inches of water, not feet of water. Meaning they want 10" or less with 1 to 6" being ideal VS 2-4' deep water. Basically the few inches of water holds a LOT more food for the puddle ducks like BWTeal, Mallards, Gadwalls, etc.

I get that.

This only gets 1.5' in probably 75% of the pond and gets 5-7' on the end. Anything else gradually flows out into a ravine at the end.

HAHAHAHA. I'm sure there's no excess fertilizer or pesticide in the pond after that.......

And not to mention the thousands of duck producing swamps and sloughs that have now been turned into a few lakes that support a few birds.

Sorry, had to get it off my chest
