Good for you getting out and doing what you enjoy. I’m just bitter that I couldn’t find anyone to fish with this morning and since I haven’t gone yet this winter, didn’t bother getting the gear out to go by my lonesome.

Yesterday was the last day of checking the boxes and nests.
And this was the last check and was a doosey to boot. 20 of 24 Wood ducks eggs hatched. Which is exceptional. Obviously more than 1 hen laying eggs in it (quite common to have more than 1 hen to drop eggs in a nest). But to hatch 20, wow. It seldom happens. So a good way to end the season. This particular box is very consistent, as it's been used every year since I put it up. Notice how high up it is? that's to eliminate the public with screwing around with it as it's in a park. I use a 6' step ladder to check it. Otherwise the hole is up 6 to 8' up, this box is 10' up.

Great that many hatched but just curious how many will die from the elements? Isn't it super super early?
