My first fish through the ice the past three years has been a walleye, which I is really rare to catch one....period....on the little lake I'm on. I was doing snrooms with a buddy and half ass decided to set up....ice was pretty sketchy up until Sunday. I set up at like 4am, put a crappie minnow on the plain Jay hook on a random rod and let her go to the bottom, adjusted my bobber stop to have my bait right at the bottom, and I'm not shitting you in maybe a total of one second fishing this girl hit it.....I thought it was a crappie at first but it was my first fish on an ice rod since last April, and I soon quickly realized it was big, and I was lucky AF to land her....barely hooked the tip of her bottom lip, she threw the hook the second she made a move on the ice....if not for sure luck of the drag being set absolutely perfectly on the random rod I grabbed by total chance...no way do I fight this fish and get her up the 6" hole, which luckily wasn't much of a hole to bring her up since it was only about 5" of ice I was on over 20' of water. My buddy took a couple quick pics and I let her go and watched her swim off like a champ.
