"Whoops....I did it again....I caught an unlikely trophy walleye...."

This thing spooled the tip-up, inhaled what was a 6" probably 7" sucker, and it felt good as I set the hook and handed it off to the 9yo son of my chick friend who was up for the weekend. The kid freaked out more and more as it neared the hole.....he sliced the 17lbs fluorocarbon leader on her when trying to yank her up....her face had barely breached the water line of the hole when she was free so I had to the hit deck and squeeze her face between both hands in the hole to pull her up and out slowly. This was the first fish the kid has ever seen pulled through the ice. I thought I might have finally topped the ever elusive 30" mark, but alas.....can add this one to the ever growing long list of 29"s for me. The kid was too afraid too hold her for a pic after seeing her teeth. I did get a couple selfies with me and him in it but none that were very good or where you could see the fish. I thought this one was maybe the same fish as the previous Walter, which I never put a tape to but guessed at 28." This one went 29" and a hair over and was definitely bigger than the last. She also had some unique markings....black streak down her right pelvic fin that I thought was a leech at first, and she had a small portion of her tail that was clear, which is kind of cool because I'll be able to tell if we ever catch her again.

Went out on a winter king charter out of homer today. Was a blast.

Dandy fish fellas!

Round two of meat processing. Did 200 lbs total. Going to be driving around to friends and families houses on Christmas weekend to distribute.

Snuck out for a quick morning fish before firing up the smoker for round two.

Going on 5 years since I last saw these on the shelf if I remember correctly.

Pistol and small rifle primers have been more prevalent the last few years but not larger rifle primers.

Been getting LR primers around here for maybe 6mos or so. For some reason 209 shot shell primers are still obsolete here anyway. Plenty of muzzleloader 209’s but still am not seeing the regulars

about 3 months ago I bought 1000 chedditte 209s.

They had about 10000 on the shelf

Figured 40" for sure. Awesome fight, beautiful fish.

No one there to take a pic of me, and I wasn't going to hold her up vertically for a selfie.....snapped a couple quick and got her back unharmed.....

It's amazing how small a fish can look in a shitty pic. I hate the "hold it way out" shit, but having the fish displayed nicely in front of you with your hands behind it....legit distance, elbows bent, more about displaying the fish nice than attempting to make it look bigger. This girl was too important to risk killing so she was cradled like a baby. There's legitimately only maybe a handful of big pike in a little lake like the one I'm on.....her going back healthy was far more important than having a good pic.....but God dammit! It's been a while since i got my pic taken with a decent pike....would've really liked to taken a good one. Oh well, I'll get a better one in a few years when she's over 40." If she keeps eating like she looks to be, she'll get there. I would've loved to see what she had in her gut....
