Shallow water had skim ice up north this morning. This fall has reminded me of the falls we used to get 20 years ago. Gradual cool down with a nice steady trickle of birds. Been the best first half of October that I can remember in a long time. Lots of birds moving through the last couple weeks.

Seems like the last several years it’s been warm then we get a massive front in late October early November and it’s mostly a flyover.

I'm hoping maybe the cold pushes them into this part of the state and they hold with lower pressure during the week and warner temps and get a hunt in this weekend. Dog is disappointed with me for not going

shallow water had skim ice Saturday a.m. in SW MN. With ponds being shallow from drought it isn't going to take much to freeze them over. To Nershi's point, hope we don't get the "blow out" freeze and fly over.... then it all thaws and everything mostly gone except field flocking mallards.

Get ND to freeze with a storm and NW wind like a couple years ago. That was an insane few days.

Broke skim ice yesterday here in SE Mn. Central part of the lake was still open. Watched a crap ton of migrators dump in around 9:30. Had Woodrow’s and GWT working at LST and bagged 2 each. Today should have been good I think as ice was gone. Two days of high 60s predicted then cool back off. Hope they stick around.

Got the dog out again today, didn't see a whole lot. Some mallards that didn't want to work.

Threw up a ground blind and set some cameras, gonna half ass some archery tonight and this week before gun season. Lot of scrapes on my property see if the cameras show anything big. Next year I gotta get out and get the land fully set back up again get a bit more serious about things

I threw a ground blind up today as well, on piece of land I have permission to hunt around Monti. Should have done it months ago, but it’s find the time to things all set up seriously.

Pulled my stand and cameras today after getting home late last night from out west. Shot my MN buck with a bow 2 weeks ago. Lots of bucks showed up this past week on camera and scrapes in the woods now.

2 states and 2 deer down, one with bow one with rifle.

One tag left and Im going with 357 revolver or possibly the 16ga with a slug.

We came back on I94 yesterday. Bismarck to Jamestown was pretty stacked with birds, and hunters.

3 different groups of friends have had phenomenal duck shoots in Manitoba the last 2 weeks.

Probably skip tomorrow 75 with 35 mph wind gusts sure don't seem like deer movement weather. This time of year anything can happen but think I'll wait til Thursday
