The May fly hatch just finished up around here... is it just me or is that extremely late. They are called May flies for a reason right? End of July...June maybe but end of July? Its been a weird summer so far. Anyone seeing other weird things... ? its got to be related to all this rain and the cold weather(accept for this week).. I think we are in for a hell of a winter.

Aren't there multiple hatches each year? I know we hit a hatch up by Alexandria memorial weekend (fish were full and not biting)

They are a little behind but we usually see them into early July. It seems the cold has made it drag on a little longer.

Have not seen a hatch by the office here but they hatch out of the river...with the high levels and strong current this year all Summer long I supposed there probably won't be a hatch, all the eggs are washed away.

I was on the St. Croix last Saturday night. There was a "mayfly" hatch, technically it was a hexagenia limbata aka "Hex". They hatch in July. There are many types of mayflys that hatch throughout the summer. Hex are big bugs, like 3+ inches long. Maybe thats what you saw.

On the question of "other things you'v seen..."
Saw a big flock of cormorants today...
And a enough ducks that I think we'll still be hunting in MN after 2020, or whenever DA's Duckless Day is supposed to happen.
