Duck opener is a weather joke at my house, every year: It's the day I go get sunburned. In the last 10 years I'd say there have been 2 that have been "ducky" weather.... and I did crap on those days. Give me wind, lots and lots of wind, so those birds that seek refuge in big water need to come back to the holes, and a south wind is preferred, it puts birds down faster.... in my opinion. Temps be damned, I have no problem shooting a limit as the mercury rockets to record highs.
Besides, anyone that reads Dennis Anderson KNOWS we're decimating only our local populations right now. Every duck shot this weekend will take us one step closer to duckless MN in 2020. Think of what would happen if it was "ducky" weather and the birds were bombing in like a Nash Buckingham story and Chuck in his speedo were pulling one of those "tall fellows" with his 3.5" super mag 00 buck with a "floater" from his original SBE he had ported with a Carlson choke tube......
Or, go shoot the woodies and teal that are left, don't forget to look for "olive/orange bills" on the mallards, and pray the jack-hole down the shore adds is 8, 12, or 16 minutes to 1/2 hour before sunrise so he doesn't start water swatting the coot in his decoys too early.
