Pintail

Sun Oct 19, 2014 10:01 am

My wife has tasked me with finding a nice pintail for the wall. Can it be done in MN? I have shot many pintails in the past, but never one I would consider mount worthy. Is there a part of the state that would give me a better chance at one? I would assume the farther west I go the better my odds, but I don't really have a clue where to start looking. I can find just about any other duck she could have requested, but this one is proving difficult. Last year she wanted an oldsquaw, and I managed to find one, now she thinks she can just pic a duck and I will make it happen. This being married business is hard on me!

MN isn't a prime mount state for any ducks.

Of you just want one for the wall, western part of the state.

Hold off until April, then head to the western part of the state.

The best bet is if you can find a person heading S in Dec/Jan to LA, TX, AR and have them bring 1 back and gift it to you. That or go yourself to LA and shoot one.

I will sell you one that I raise and then sell to claimers and Avery Pro Staffers.

Business is booming for me.

I've got a nice Pintail mounted that I shot in late November one year. It's possible but not something you can bank on doing. A lot of luck involved.

I'd say the odds of a nice sprig this far North is less than shooting a banded duck.
