Meowing for feral cats

Fri Dec 19, 2014 11:30 pm

I'd like to start a fund to put the feral cat on the endangered species list. Get it federally protected and illegal to hit with a vehicle or heaven forbid, get shot. Wonder if I could get that howling for wolves doctor to help? She seems like a swell lady, highly ignorant and I'd really like to see an interview with her where she can't use her hands to overly dramatize everything.

What a wonderful idea! Just think what we could do with all of those protected cats....for instance we could re-introduce them back into Yellowstone Park or other areas where their numbers have dwindled. And when their numbers climb back up to a sustainable level, we could have a short hunting season for them.

I wonder what the Birding Societies and Bird Watching groups would think of this. Would they ask for compensation for the birds lost to feral cat predation?

The sad thing is that it will eventually happen. It might be a hundred years down the road but it'll happen.

Be careful.Don't want to end up like these guys. Definitely don't post picture or brag on social media.

Two Eastern Arkansas hunters are facing charges for killing cats while duck hunting.

St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby May says the two were caught because of a new investigative tool - social media.

Law enforcement is turning to social media. Every time you post a picture, if anyone sees it, it can be captured. Even if they don't see it, once it goes online, police say it can always be found and at that point the hunt is on.

This is the disturbing photo Sheriff Bobby May says came across his desk.

"These two men holding cats like they were trophies and they had obviously been shot; three cats that we could count," Sheriff May said,.

William Taylor and Ray Verhoeven are charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

"It actually shows what cowards they are, only a coward would treat a domesticated animal like that," Sheriff May said.

Taylor and Verhoeven had recently returned from a duck hunting trip. Sheriff May said his department worked with the state Wildlife and Gaming and used this photo to track one of the suspects right back to his house, the same house in the photo that was posted online where both suspects are seen holding the dead cats.

"From the photo, they were healthy cats so they belong to someone they weren't strays, so we're going to eventually find out who those cats belong to," Sheriff May said.

Animal cruelty in Arkansas is a Class D felony, meaning both suspects could lose their hunting licenses and possibly be fined, Sheriff May said. Even if that happens, there is no excuse for killing a domesticated animal.

"Thank goodness they are stupid," Sheriff May said. "If they were smart they wouldn't be criminal to begin with."

Taylor, who was arrested and given a $25,000 bond, is already out of jail. Verhoeven works out of town but is expected to turn himself in on Dec. 19 when he returns, Sheriff May said.

The two are expected to face a St. Francis County judge Jan. 23, 2015.

The cats belong to a Ruthie Davis, who apparently lives 100 from where her cats were killed.

In Shelby County, if you know of a case of animal cruelty you can report it by calling 901-937-3910 or by e-mailing reportcruelty@memphishumane.org.

"Only a coward would treat a domesticated animal like that" is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever seen. What an idiot.

Well then, it is time for a C.L.M. (Cat Lives Matter) protest at M.O.A.

If those cats were so domesticated, what were they doing so far from the house?

The shooters were dumb for posting the pictures on social media.....that has become the plaque among hunters.

Interesting that a person can go buy or pick up a free kitten or two. Take it home till they don't like it, release it and that is o.k. The population of domesticated, free ranging cats has exploded and majorly affected bird populations, Yet it is unacceptable to take care of a problem, because of the perception that it is a "domestic" pet, when it all f-actuality, it is no such thing. We had a feral cat hanging out at our bear bait sites this year, with wolves, coons, skunks, bobcats, fishers and bears.
