Wow! Who would have thought this was happening. It doesn't appear that the Coot was defending its nest, but rather being on an aggressive attack. Maybe it is time to thin the Coot flocks and save some Cans or other ducks.

I've given ground and formed coot jerky to unsuspecting people and they can't tell the difference between that and a mallard. Just saying.

Coots are like northerns, take as many out as possible and leave on shore

Any idea of how common this is? Would be interesting to know. Don't wanna turn into a crazy coot killer (within legal limits obviously) just because of one video.

It really wouldn't pay to just randomly shoot coots along the flyway. Maybe delta will get permitted to slaughter coots during nesting season in the main canvasback breeding areas like the predator control research in the prairie pothole region.

Yeah that will really help improve the image of sportsmen.

Predation would indicate a targeted for source.

More likely territorial competition/defense actions by coots. Likely happens to other ducks besides canvas backs, but no one cares enough to put a camera on a widgeon/ring neck/red head nest

And how big of a sorry sack is a canvas back getting it's ass kicked by a coot. It's a freaking coot!
