This is a tough one for me to stomach, not because I have a strong emotional tie to a proposed teal season, but because this is the 1st time in recent history I can think of a commissioner basing a huge decision off his emotions alone. If it feels communist it's because it is...
I typically have tried with the last 4 or so commissioners to have an objective attitude toward themselves and the task ahead of them. Tom points out some very true points in his email to you (trigger). I truly believe he has "lots going on" and "cannot please everybody". I also commend him for actually making a decision believe it or not. I strongly feel that many of today's leaders biggest faults/failures is their inability to make a decision so in that regard hats off.....
But this is completely selfish on his behalf. Here's an agency that has transparently laid claim that hunter numbers (specifically waterfowl) are dwindling at an alarming rate. They realize the need for new recruitment opportunities and yet EPIC-LY FAIL to capitalize on anything outside the status quo. In essence he's saying we need new hunters, hopefully they come back if we keep doing the exact same thing. Well we all know what continuing to do the exact same things over and over while expecting different results equals = insanity (A. Einstein) .
The most troubling part is that there was no science based decision considered period. Just raw emotion of a aging outdoorsman thinking he's doing the citizens a service. His way must be everyones
