Focus beam

But they sure are shitty. And when turning they do not shine to the side. BTW, I use my Energizer, I did it a few nights ago.

Remember my intended use is a bit different, meaning I'm looking for high illumination.
My list would be:
LED high lumens to = a Q beam, but with 3 power levels
Batteries last at least 3 hrs on full power.
Good durable construction so it lasts for years.
Reasonable cost. (not over $60)

Now for a general use camp-hunt-fishing LED I think these 3 are the ones that most guys would be happy with: Energizer 250lu $25; the Fenix 350 lumen head lamp for $28 are the best 2 options. If you want focusable beam in a headlamp then the Coast HL7 is $38 196 lumens, 5:45 run time. All 3 have links on page 3.

Edit, added these next 2 paragraphs:

- I just happened across this Army tech that has a 1000 lumen and weighs less and is more compact. $40 (over 1/2 off, but it is V2 Vs the newest V3 model) https://www.armytek.com/products/flashl ... -gold.html A rather short run time (1 hr at full power), but it only has 1 battery similar to the one Bullet mentioned. But has a much higher standard for toughness - 10m drop and water rating (one of best ratings that I've seen).

- And I did a bunch of more reading tonight on the tech side of things - basically anything that says over 2200 lumens in a headlamp is BS as the technology just is not there yet. So anything you see on Amazon, Ebay, etc that claims more than 2200 lumen - run, don't walk away from the supplier. Some of the reviews on Stanley, who claimed up too 2000 lumens was on the 10 watt spotlight in fact was under 1000, more like 750. Anyway, buyer beware as lots of BS claims on the net. And as mentioned many of these also claim 4000 or 4400mah batteries included when the biggest is 3400 from Panasonic, so another tell tale sign of a BS product.

Doesn't your gps have a 'mark' button on it? Works great for avoiding hazards. I have lots of rocks and logs marked on mine.

DD, where's your link???

Nershi, it's hard to mark floating logs... and if in a new area obstacles are not marked yet. And most GPS programs are for deeper fishing lakes, the shallow hunting lakes/sloughs are simply not available. And thus why a good spot light to clearly see at night is a good thing to have with.

Also this can obviously pertain to batteries and lights too.

Just do me a favor: when you get the LED strapped to your head and flip it on that a pair of Bose speakers start playing the Batman Theme Song so when you're cutting across the lake with the Bat Signal shining bright we hear, "Na na na na na na na na na, BATMAN!"

That would be cool.

Well your choice of music does have merit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtoMN_xi-AM

But I was thinking more like this music with Chuck's group hunt as we are cutting across the water at night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30QzJKCUekQ

But I could really dig something like this if it was a cupped incoming duck silhouette in the spot light instead

By N3ckBe@rdSkyBust3r regarding battery prices, etc:

IMR Batteries, MTN Electronics, or Illumn. Only three vendors that I trust. IMR has the fastest shipping and best prices.
https://www.imrbatteries.com/
https://www.mtnelectronics.com/index.php
http://www.illumn.com/

18650's max out around 3500 MAH, if they state otherwise they are likely cheap knockoffs. Stick with batteries from Panasonic/Sanyo, companies like Keepower, Orbital, and EVVA all use the Panasonic/Sanyo cells and add in a protection circuit and re wrap them.

Also if you end up investing in a light that takes AA or AAA batteries, I would suggest keeping some Panasonic Eneloop batteries around.
Eneloop are available locally at Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc.

Added:
So for chargers if you fellers are investing in these batteries...... Xtar VP2 best 18650 charger, and the MH-C9000 for the eneloops and other NiMh AA/AAA's.

I just bought mine off Fleebay. I think I paid like $11 or something like that. Who knows how long it will last but like I said so far so good. I got mine this spring used it for bowfishing and now duck hunting so far...

DD, After rereading, did you mean the Energizer?

For those real budget minded, there is always Harbor Freight.

No idea on the lumens as does not list lumens on their LED headlamp, but only $4 - http://www.harborfreight.com/five-led-m ... 61528.html

They don't carry any Lithium battery LED lights at all. So for us cold weather guys - something to consider since cold does not effect lithium batteries, unlike alkaline and NiMH batteries which cold does indeed effect how long they can run.

Here is what they do carry for LED http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsea ... flashlight
The 1st 3 blue lights listed can not be beat quality wise for the $3 cost. I have several.
I personally have never bought a HF regular hand held flashlight - so no opinion. But from stuff I've bought over the years, by and large they sell consumer entry level (low end) quality items. .

Well, as I have a bias towards action, picked up a 2 pack of these at Costco....

Twist Focusing
Dual color (3 settings white, 1 red)
Separate on/of for red beam
White: 405, 230 & 53 lumens
Broadest beam @ 11. 5' diameter @ 6' distance
Focused beam range up to 459' distance spotlight
3-AAA: 2.5 hr @ 405 3hr @ 230, 17 hr @ 53
Hard hat clips included
No"over skull" strap
Batteries in lamp, not rear of head pack

Very happy. The 53 - 405 range is a very nice option. Likely fits my needs at a ratio that follows the battery run times for each setting.
