Mass Shootings......Solutions?

What is making some people go off the deep end and lose all respect for life? Social rejection or ridicule, mental health issues, lack of parental/peer guidance, loss of compassion and desensitization from movies/television/video games, etc ?

I don't believe that stricter gun control is the single answer.

Until there is something, I'm maintaining my CCP & proficiency training.

It's a combination of many things: lack of morality in our society, lack of respect towards others, erosion of the family, mental health treatment, social media, etc. Guns have always been in America, always. What changed.

Enact laws that forbid the media from running rampant with speculation, agenda or fear mongering. Not to take away from the gravity of the tragedies that occur, but we'd be much better off if they weren't put in the national spotlight with uneducated talking heads driving the narrative.

Good article from the late Ron Avery on individual responsibility and concealed carry for those interested -

I think it's the "it's ok to be different" movement.

I'm with you on this...the media continually running wild with these shootings, I believe in some ways that it tends to recruit other potential shooters. Something to give them their "15-minutes" of immediate fame and a long lasting legacy. Less coverage and exploitation = less notoriety and hopefully less shooters.

Yup, the "It bleeds, it Leads" news mentality, was that for newspapers long before TV was around. So perhaps what is missing is morality with the news people, as they dramatize and do over the top coverage. Frankly it started with the OJ trial, sensationalism journalism at its worst. Then throw in Jerry Springer and Howard Sterns "shock" shows and you have a desensitized populace.

Do you think a Pres would be reelected if a Pres disguised that he could not walk? Well that is what happen with FDR and his disability. The press said nothing. I highly doubt that would happen today.

Lack of ethics of the press and people is all about the disrespect of others.

But to put the 2 shootings into perspective -

As society grows more and more disconnected more and more shootings will happen. People are more isolated and alone that at any other time in human history.
