Anyone getting ready? Ordered more taps and tubing so I'll be ready to go for a slightly expanded run this year. See what happens

Looks like it's getting close may need to go tap at the cabin this weekend. Get a few more days in the forecast and see if we tap or let them run a couple days and tap them next weekend. But looks like starting Monday things could start flowing

If we cross paths I'd trade you some honey for syrup?

Sure! If I make enough. Last year was kinda first test run so hoping to do it a little bigger this year and should have some more. Last year only ended with about a gallon which after giving some samples to family etc didn't leave much

We got no maples up here but got quite a few birch in our yard. Thinking about taping some just for the water to drink. Supposed to be pretty good. I think birches are like 100 gallons of water for a gallon of syrup. Sounds like alot of storage haha

We didn't go til Saturday morning and did a first collection about 1 pm...seemed the trees just started running Fri maybe as some had a lil sap that was frozen still from overnight, some were dry. Got probably 3.5 gallons when we collected. We then collected again 6 pm Saturday and had another 4-4.5 gallons so they definitely started running harder Saturday.

The ratio was horrendous though out of that 8-9 gallons we got about 14 oz of syrup. And it's really cloudy with a bunch of sediment in it...we filtered the same as we did last year so I dunno...only second year doing it. I dunno if it's because it's the very first part of the run that made it like that...or maybe the drought last summer affected things? Guess we'll see how it looks next weekend

Dog and I took a day trip today...nice haul about 25 gallons. Should be running pretty good for the next week. Hopefully ratio on this batch is better than the first
