Migration

Thu Oct 15, 2020 3:45 pm

Winds have been out of the NW, temps are about to take a big plunge in Canada, reports are flooding in of birds on the move and Fowler is no where to be found?

Looks like things might get going early this year. Had a dusting of snow in my front yard this morning and some skim ice by shore.

Anybody been out since the weather switched with anything to report?

Was out in a west metro field, which overlooks our duck marsh, goose hunting and hoping for some bonus ducks over the spinners. Essentially no birds in the area. Some shooting on the bigger water bodies to the west, but pretty damn dismal overall. I’ve only been skunked a handful of times hunting this farm over the past 25 years, and this morning was one of them.

Wanted to try tonight but work got late. Maybe next week I'll try and get out some during the week.

I’ll be prowling around the far western reaches of MN in the central part of the state this weekend for ducks. I’ll report what I see. Thinking of doing some dumb big water spread shit but it might be too early for that.

Two shooting opps and nothing in the bag at my dad’s property in Kandiyohi county this morning.

Just finished rigging some dekes for tomorrow, which will be my first outing for the year.

Season’s been open for what, a month?

I haven't seen much but haven't been out looking really either. There's very few city ducks and geese yet. When there isn't a fair amount of ducks and geese within the giant refuge known as the Twin Cities metro....there typically isn't going to be birds outside of it.

I was wondering if DNR was still doing that.

Drove south for the last three hours of daylight last night and didn’t see a Duck. One flock of geese 12 miles north of Sauk Centre.

Flyover, brah...flyover!

I'm hoping this shithole state freezes up in the very, very near future.

Duck numbers are pretty bad right now for my area. Seeing very few mallards on any of the refuge areas we hunt by. Geese numbers are actually great for this time of year. I am sure we gained some this week. Last weekend had a 6 pack of specks decoy into the spread. Problably spend the weekend chasing geese again. Hopefully some more ducks move in. I took a look at the weather for where I am supposed to be in Canada this week, I see on Saturday morning low 10 degrees. Birds should be on the move.

This weekend should be the best of the year. We shall see.
