Late hatching...

2 days ago the local feed had the cops and FD rescuing little ducklings out of a drain.

Per photo likely they were only a few days old.

I've had Wood duck ducklings hatch after July 4th before.

Post up a photo of very late hatchings.

Hopefully there is a good late hatch. I have seen a total of one clutch of ducks and a few small clutches of geese. Production seems like it has been a bust so far.

Strange thing is, I have heard similar things from first hand reports from people who have been out to the Dakotas this summer. Seems odd with all the water they had out there during nesting.

Think this spring was just very hard on stuff overall...it sucked me me being a newborn trying to survive in it? I dunno. Even my ditch lillies which are hardy as can be are flowering about 2 weeks later than usual...and tropical plants like canna lillies way behind schedule

Been seeing puff balls still this week. Last week I saw ducks almost as big as their mom.

Saw some freshly hatched goslings last night while fishing. Never thought second nests were a thing with geese but after a little reading it looks like it does happen occasionally with Canada’s.
