Chicago sucks!!!!

We got a bunch more snow yesterday. I said fug it and threw in the towel on moving that chit. I’m too busy at work and too lazy at home. God is clearing the rest of the snow this year when he is ready. In the meantime muck boots and 4WD.

It really do be the time of year we start saying fukk it and just wait for the snow to melt. I'll never forget 2013 and 2014 tho. Those winters were brutal. 2017 sucked too if I'm remembering correct. I hate how bad winters stick with me and continue to generate anxiety about the months of April and May.

Tonka and Waconia still have 20" of solid ice for ice fishing. Shoreline is sketchy though, need to pick your spot to cross from land to good ice.

I'm still walking out in wetlands doing MHN and WDB maintenance as I've had a hell of a bad cold for 2.5 weeks now. Lost 4 nice weather days above 35 as zero strength/stamina due to lingering upper respiratory. Ughhh.
Where sun does not hit the snow is 6" above my knee cap in the Canary grass/wedges. Tough walking. Zero frozen ground/ice under 18" of snow.
This cold weather (temps 20 degrees below average) will hopefully get me to access 20+ sites I cold not otherwise get to as the refreezing of ice will get me out there to the nests/boxes.

I'm seeing wetlands in SW metro as 6" to 2' down from normal. Where there's a fair amount of run off its decent. But Tonka is at least 2' down. 1 wetland off of Tonka in Tonka Bay was dry last fall and never froze, now about 4" of new water with 1" of ice and muck under it. I am NOT putting on waders and hauling a 8' step ladder to access the WDB. Nope. Uh uh. Oh well... The perils of duck maintenance.

I figure Tonka won't be ice free for another month yet. Maybe even 5 weeks.
At this rate stream Trout fishing we'll have snow banks yet and high muddy waters.
Folks welcome to global warming in MN.

A wacked out spring temp wise, mostly cold, then that string of record breaking high 80s.

With the snow melt, some areas got much needed melt to fully refill the wetlands, some partially, and some hardly made a difference. I have one 5 acre wetland that went up maybe 4". The mallard nest pipe is 20" higher elevation than the waterline. Usually there'd be at least 1' of water at it. Wet years 3' of water. Go figure.

Right now it's 1 week behind for the greenery, normally I mow right before Opnr. I'll mow Wed this week for the 1st time.

Today Monday May 14th is a beautiful morning outside. Love the upper 40s low. Heading to 70s. No mosquitos yet. But the wood ticks... Them sum bitches are thick this year, pulling 1 to 2 off of me everyday. Pulled 1 off of my sac last night. WTF really? That was a 1st.
But hey, I'm still alive and kicking, unlike the 10 people that I knew in the last 17 week's who aren't anymore. Age 45 to 91. Heck only 3 were older than me. :/ Life goes on, until it doesn't....

Temp forecast and precip thru July is expected to be average in the upper midwest. That'll be a nice if it actually happens vs the severe draught of last year.

SW Minnie got nailed the last 3 days. Reminiscent of 4 to 5 yrs back. Comfy (straight W of Mankato) is flooded. Photo is 3 day totals for SW MN

Heck did all the ice way up North ever melt in time for the Opnr 2 days ago?

Saw a photo where the 'eyes were congregated for spawning at a creek mouth 2 weeks ago NW of Brainerd. At least 1 or 2 behind average.
