Your statement was Categorically False. NATO wasn't formed for the exact type of reason as Russia invading Ukraine. NATO was formed as a defense against the threat of ah offensive USSR, which Ukraine was wholly a part of. Thus, your statement is false. Categorically False in every aspect.

Go back and look at the date when NATO was founded. Ukraine wasn't even a sovereign country when NATO was founded....so how are you trying to argue that the invasion of a country that wasn't even a country at the time was exactly the type of reason for why NATO was created?

NATO was the yin to the USSR yang.

Once the USSR fell and Moscow VOLUNTARILY relinquished all the countries within the USSR back to being sovereign nation states (i.e. they couldn't afford to financially support/control them anymore)......

....NATO should've folded.

Why would NATO, an organization of countries with the purpose of "defense" against a supposed soviet "offense" still need to exist.....after the USSR folded and VOLUNTARILY gave up control of all those countries?

No one fired a shot to get the soviets to do that....they were like, "fuggit, we don't want you anymore....you're on your own."

The notion that NATO needed to exist after the singular threat they were formed to defend against dissolved is retarded at best. What was NATO's purpose after the fall of the USSR?

To defend the countries that Russia didn't want and voluntarily gave up against the threat of Russia invading them?

The only thing that makes sense is that NATO isn't about defense.....it's about Offense, which it is and has been since the fall of the steel curtain.

Ukraine getting invaded was an inevitability as a result of NATO existing and breaking their terms with Russia to not expand now at least a dozen times.

NATO is not an offensive alliance and has never invaded another country. NATO is still around to defend against Russia trying to establish the same land empire they had with the USSR.

Don’t be so literal, no NATO was not formed specifically to protect Ukraine, the organization was formed to stem the potential spread of communism to the non communist countries. Russia is not commy but Putin would love to return to the Glory Days of the USSR. And taking Ukraine would help put the bread basket of the former Soviet Union back in the fold. Shit hole or not the Ukrainians don’t deserve to be annihilated by a crazy narcissist.
