I think your May 1st date is probably about right. Up north we need to get rid of the snow first. We are just starting the melt and have 2-3 feet of snow with taller drifts and a couple feet of rock solid ice. Much less ice than most years due to mild temps and lots of snow so we got that going for us.

I want to head up to the cabin for one last panfish adventure and I am going to wait a couple weeks till more snow melts. Kinda crazy that’s the case considering it is end of March.

My buddy is digging out his boat with an excavator this week so we can start fishing on the weekends soon. That’s good because I don’t own an excavator and don’t expect to see my boat for a few weeks minimum.

20" of solid ice on Tonka and Waconia.
Last week I was thinking April 24th. Now thinking May 1 with this weather pattern.

It is gonna get sloppy in a hurry with this heat wave coming. Heard on the radio this morning we have 30 inches of snow pack. It has a very high moisture content. That’s a lot of water that will be melted in short order.

Was gonna go up to the cabin to ice fish next weekend but it might be like fishing in a soup bowl.

I’m thinking ice out in northern MN is gonna be the week leading up to walleye opener.

Nershi- head to Rainy River. Looks like the "' 'Forks" are locked up under that snow pack.... https://lakeofthewoodsmn.com/rainy-river-spring-fishing-update-conditions-are-excellent/

A lot of snow needs to melt before my boat is accessible. My buddy was gonna bring up a wheel loader to dig it out but my dad wasn’t fond of that idea. I definitely wouldn’t be ice fishing if I had the boat.

I went fly fishing south of I 90 yesterday in Wisconsin. It’s full blown spring down there. Grass is starting to green up, actual insect activity. Tons of boats on the river too. Not a single sign of snow anywhere and things are fairly dried out even.

Tons of boats downstream of Pike Island every day on my drive to/from work as well.
