I understand what you're saying, but a capture/recapture study requires it to be a random harvest. Once the banded birds are specifically targeted, the data becomes skewed.

They can study neck collard birds from a distance so a bird can be monitored and studied for some time, following flight patterns and whatnot. Obviously, once a leg banded bird is shot the study is over, so in a sense this statement is false.
