Leaving 3 AM Wednesday...most likely for central sodak. I'll try to provide updates.

Stay awake and stay on the road. A friend of mine died on a trip back from waterfowl hunting in the Dakotas.

Some sage words of advice, as i've fallen a sleep at the wheel twice years ago. I was just very lucky that no one was hurt either time. Now if I feel drowsy I pull over and do a power nap for an hour or 2. And day time can be just as bad as the warm sun hits you and you are already dogged tired...

Anything will be better than driving 6 hrs through a blizzard in the middle of the night last year out to SD. Been doing it 10 Springs no issues so far, we're young yet ;)

Mostly nervous about finding birds...first time we are targeting the very end of the migration...which is why we decided to leave a day earlier than we usually do.

I don't think you'll have a problem finding birds.

I was young too. One time was when i was about 20 and the other I was about 31 or so. Both times I was up at least 36 hours straight and minimal sleep the nights prior. (now that right there is a recipe for a disaster). In my later 30s a couple of times I did just that coming back from ND or MB. One time I stopped at FF and another at Monticello (only an hour away from home), I had stopped several times to walk around in the cool air on my way down I-94, but I was still so sleepy I was definately impaired, so I slept for 3 hours, woke up and then proceded home.

BTW, a FYI type of thing, I remember reading an article a year or 2 back that said a sleep deprived person while driving is as bad as being drunk on the road. :o

Or ask the train operator that crashed that subway train out east last week when he fell a sleep.

For everyone reading this, do us us all a favor, if you are overly tired, just pull over and get a few hours of sleep.
