How far into SoDak are we talking? I remind you I'm a rookie when it comes to "killing whitey." I may be able to go on a scouting mission or two....

You don't need to go far west into SD to find plenty of huntable birds. I29.

Good luck boys. I know the brookings area as of last week had basically zero snow. I wish I could make it.

Once you hit I-29 in SoDak, you are in the land of "Whitey." I usually go in as far as Lake Thompson/DeSmet (About 30-miles) and then go either north or south depending on the snow line and weather.

It is anyone's guess where they will be. I've received reports that the ice is really thick on the lakes and ponds this year. Sheet water is what they will be looking for.

And usually, we end up with a blizzard or two during the month of March/April, so that always keeps things interesting.

Just keep in mind Aberdeen area will be mostly adults then yet.

Yeah, I was kind of expecting mostly adult birds. They are a real trip sometimes.

If I were going this week I would go between the: Huron - Brookings - Webster triangle. I'm sure up in the Scatterwood/Sand area will have birds as well. I'm going to Tempe and thaw out.

With the projected storms this week, it will be anyone's guess. The cold is not a problem, but the slushy roads and very wet fields are problematic.

I have found that hunting the mixed adult/juvi flocks are better. The juvis help to bring in the adults closer. These flocks are generally smaller. But those huge adult flocks are a sight to behold--but tough hunting.
