So we will get an 8 bird per day limit? But a teal season would be bad? This is basically letting us kill those same oops birds, just in the regular season.

Except the majority are gone by then.

So what's the point?

The majority of the opportunity is missed, but we get the scraps? WTF? And we have the option from the Fed's to take advantage of the majority, but bless our state dnr for protecting us from more opportunities.

A$$ holes![/quote]
The point is an early teal season would be way better then two bonus teal during the regular season. The minn dnr is a joke and I gave up on them long ago.

I finally heard back from Steve. According to him there was a survey sent out to 4000 hunters. Kinda weird no one on this site received one. He said the numbers were roughly 40% opposed it, 30% no opinion and 30% in support. From the sounds of it we will not have a teal season again this year.

If they are gonna take surveys to make management decisions instead of using scientific reasoning we may as well get rid of that portion of our DNR. We don't need all of these "specialists" and committees to survey hunters and fisherman to set the laws.

Not me.

This is one of the concerns that I expressed years ago, about the "social" aspect of the equation of setting regulations. Meaning what does society think about it? That is why there is a limit on Snow Geese even though there is no need for it biologically. it is in place because of what will the non hunting citizens think of a "no limit" and its implications of "game hogs" of us hunters, etc Which as leads to "tradition" under the societal aspect of this. It was one of the main things people griped about that it would take away from "opening day traditions" if we had an early teal season. Really? So what part does over water goose hunting, YWD, and early field goose come into play that screws over the traditional "Opening day" experience? But an early Teal season would interfere - but the other 3 hunts don't? Hogwash! Sorry but that is some screwed up logic when I look at it.

Heck I'd of been happy with a 2 day season 4 teal daily limit the weekend after labor day weekend. But I am an easy guy to keep happy in that regards. :)

BTW, the "societal" aspect is why the DNR will not move up the Walleye opener in MN, because of the "traditional opener" so many fishermen said was so important. :/

We hunters and fishermen have no else to blame except for our rank and file for these "societal" aspects governing the various seasons. :(

I tried to delete this bc i saw it was a month old thread, but it wont let me so ill say, what i said. But I did get that survey. I requested a second one just to have. If you really want to know what it looked like I could post some pics. But it wasn't that cool. Like 8 pages of questions I would say. Two pertaining to the teal season.

If that's the case being that there were only 2 questions (I have no reason to doubt you), and many other questions, then that would skew the results too.

Meaning if a survey of waterfowl hunters was just about the early teal season. Say it was sent to 1,000 waterfowl hunters and asked just this: " Would you be in favor of a 9 day early Sept. teal only season since the USFWS will allow it?" I can guarantee you the the results would be different.

IMHO they skewed the question (vague) in such a way that the upper mngt want,ed to justify not to have it. Now if they didn't do so intentionally, then the question goes to why the incompetence of the manner in this survey was handled? Either way, I have lost a lot of confidence in the DNR over this this.

Those that have read my posts in the past know that I generally am supportive of the DNR, but the BS politics within the DNR decision on the Teal season to screw us hunters over hunter opportunity is really chafing me the wrong way as there is no biological reason not to have it. Nuff said.
