Girlfriend has off this weekend, may go take a drive around SE ND or W MN just to see whats happening and if any provide a pass shooting opportunity, just maybe throw some steel out. We'll see. Just be a day trip sort of thing, wouldn't bring decoys.

I know a guy in sd that decoyed a couple big flocks coming off a roost early this am. He said the shooting was rusty for the first bunches of the year.....

Buddy is driving back from snowmobiling in Montana...taking 212 back across SD. He's not a hunter but called me all excited...said he just crossed the Missouri and near Gettysburg thought there were fires burning cause it looked like smoke in the distance. Clouds of birds in every direction he said, first time he's seen the migration.

Actually not my hometown haha...and never gone to the st patties festivities there...can't stand crowds haha. Just grew up hunting out there on my Dads land and now have some of my own out there that I hope to build a house on. Good luck with the hangover haha, know that place has claimed plenty of my friends

Haha ok that's way cooler than being from Maple Lake but yeah now I remember why it's been so long since I've been out there. Uffda.

Missouri report - Mar 11-14.
We started hunting late Tues PM in impossible conditions - 30-50 MPH winds. We quit after 1.5 hours as I figured we couldn't hit anything even if some came in as they would blow away once they spread their wings. We were 1/2 mile from a huge feed.
Weds we only got 6. 5 were adult birds. Many birds did not finish. We went to Squaw Creek Refuge over lunch. There were mind numbing number of birds there.
Thurs we got 12 including 5 out of a flock of 7. Several were the smaller Ross geese. We were feeling pretty full of ourselves until we whiffed on the next double. The late morning flight was amazing to watch. For a half hour there were always a thousand birds in the air. Many flying at different altitudes and in different directions. It was interesting to see birds break off from one flock and join another, often butting in one leg of the V in the middle.
Fri was slow in the same field as Thurs. The wind was switching directions, so we turned the blinds around. This proved to be a mistake as the first few flocks came in behind us. We only hunted until 3 and didn't fire our guns. Then we did a bigger refuge tour and headed home.
