Hard to hunt when things need to get done outside and it's this nice out.

Changed a lot IMO. Most of it for the better. Much improved clothing & waders helped a bunch.

When I remember "the good old days" I remember leakin
waders & being wet & cold all day. Crappy steel shot also sucked

The good old days weren't so great in my eyes. We have it mighty good now.

But I would not trade in the old days for the shear # of ducks that I saw in MN back then.
For example 40 years ago: 150K+ (DNR est) Mallards at Swan going out to feed (non stop huge flocks for 1.5 hours heading out to feed), flocks of 100+ Bills coming into the dekes 40 miles from DT Mpls. Some things in the good old days were indeed better. Not to mention a brand new Chevy 4x4 pick up could be bought for less then $5000 in '74

And today the average Chevy 4x4 is $40K. Thus why I long for the old pricing....

2 other things that definately were better back then.

You could bring a shotgun to school after you hunted in the morning and there were no worries.

Kids could go play all day and there was no concern. I remember being 12 and gone all day shore fishing with the neighbors kids on Lake Mtka in the summer time.

You fondly recall putting your gun in your locker yet you conveniently repress being bullied and shoved into that locker because you were such a dork.

Who knows, maybe you'd be better off being born in 1998 versus 1958. Anti-bullying laws, gay marriage...who's to say had you been born 40 years later that you wouldn't be more fond of this era and happier?

Kids still do this, so nothing in this regard has changed.

I wouldn't leave my kids unattended "around there" either.
