Open water and iced over reports.

Thu Nov 13, 2014 11:07 pm

PLEASE POST UP WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN SEEING SO OTHERS KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT ON SIMILAR SIZED WATERS IN THE AREA.

Yesterday.
Normandale lake in Bloomington was 99% frozen over with 1/2 dz pockets that the ducks had kept open.
Mitchell Lake in EP off of Hwy 5 was 95% open (a fishing lake to 18' deep with some cattails areas, 113 acres).
Many small ponds were iced over.

Today.
Galpin Lake off of Hwy 7 in Excelsior was mostly frozen over. It has water depth up to 12'
Lake Minnewashta on the south end by Hwy 5 was wide open yet. (a deep fishing lake with a fair amount of cattails areas).
Schmidt Lake in Plymouth 37 acres, froze over this AM, up to 25' deep
Most small ponds were iced over

Turtle Lake in Shoreview is wide open. Max depth is 29 feet. Yesterday, I noticed quite a few new mallards on the lake. We have had resident geese here all season and they are still here.

Rice Lake in Lino Lakes is froze over. Local ponds are frozen.

Pelican was open on the main lake last night but bays were freezing over. I would guess the bay the access is on has ice.

Maple Lake was partially froze in the middle part but the rest was open.

Smaller ponds froze for the most part, a few had some open water from the wind.

Theres another smaller lake I can see from my tree stand and that was open.

North Lake is frozen over with 1/2" -3/4" ice...no open water visible from the landing. Vermillion River is still open.

One would of thought with all the ducks on North Lake they would of keep half of the place open with pure body heat!. Miss river is St. Paul is open.

The Sauk River is open on the bigger lake areas. All of the small ponds from Cold Spring to Brooten are iced. Lake Johanna is locked tight. Unless it's moving or a large body of water I'd say it's safe to say it's iced up. Knee deep snow in the fields. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of ducks around!

Everything is pretty well froze up in Isanti county.

The Rum River has some major ice forming and a lot of ice flowing with the open water.

Usually we have a pretty good population of poop pit geese flying around but even those seem to have vacated early.
DENNIS ANDERSON, Then, about five years ago, in 2020, there were no more ducks in the state,
