Hunting Mississippi River

I was going to go scout for birds tomorrow near the Mississippi because it's still open in some spots. Has anyone hunted between elk river and Ramsey? Are there any special regulations for hunting on the river or could we just set up on a bank if it isn't posted? Is there any public land along that stretch?

You would probably have to check with each city along the river. They all have different ordinances along with the state laws. Some of the public or park land does not allow hunting. Just beware, because home owners are not bashful about calling police.

This isn't North Dakota. You can't just hunt it if it's not posted

That isn't necessarily true.

You can just set up anywhere on rivers. Walk in wherever. You have legal access to any part of it as long as you stay within the high water mark.

Good luck hunting and you're welcome!

Miss river is St. Paul is frozen stiff this morning and its been open all fall. So I am not sure how much open water you will find at this point.

Mississippi Pool 1 is open. Drove across it on 694 this morning. Also, Monticello power plant keeps a large stretch open all year.
