10 feet from a tree trunk or overhanging branch is sufficient in most cases. Plenty such sites exist, or can be easily made with a pruner, even in the forests.

Anyway, this is why I like guards and the box away from the trees. It is a display piece that a Wood Duck Society member uses to get his point across.



I like to raise wild ducks, not squirrels or let a racoon kill the hen or eat the eggs. So the above photo does get the point across, eh?
